Epidemiologist and Crisis Headquarters member Branislav Tiodorovic (Beta/Serbian government/Slobodan Miljevic)

Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic said on Aug. 9 that it depends on the situation in each individual local community, or rather, the “vaccination scope,” whether or not school will be held online or in classroom starting Sept. 1.

The epidemiologist told the RTS public service that the teachers and school staff should use August to get vaccinated, in order “to protect themselves and ensure normal operation [of schools],” and that it is up to the education authorities to decide if classes will be held in classroom or online, depending on the situation in each local community.

Tiodorovic said he believes that the current situation in Serbia, when it comes to the Delta strain of COVID-19, “is very concerning, and demands attention, but not panic.”

“The vaccination is not a matter of democracy but civilization,” Tiodorovic said. He added that “health workers and everyone within the health system who comes into contact with patients must be vaccinated,” saying that even countries such as France, which no one could say is lacking in democracy, had made the vaccination of their health workers mandatory.
