Boris Tadic: Situation in Northern Kosovo a Direct Consequence of Vucic and Kurti’s Interests

Social Democratic Party leader Boris Tadic said on Sept. 29 that the situation at the Brnjak and Jarinje administrative crossings is “a direct consequence of interests” for Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s election campaigns and has nothing to do with the interests of ordinary people.

“The essence of this situation is how well the dispute and the people [demonstrating] at the crossings can be used for Kurti’s success in the pending local elections in Kosovo and Vucic’s in the parliamentary and presidential vote in Serbia,” Tadic told the Danas daily newspaper.

Tadic also said that he, personally, would never allow the issue of license plates to remain unresolved, if that places Serbia in an unfavorable position and leaves plenty of room for action to the other side, which Kurti took advantage of by deploying special police forces [in northern Kosovo]. “I would never use the army in a dispute over license plates, and, especially, would never scare our people with a new pogrom. That is shameful and cowardly,” Tadic added.

Tadic, a former Serbian president, also said that Vucic should talk with the people bringing decisions and not with ambassadors and other mediators, because this yields no results but only contributes to “Vucic’s and Kurti’s selfish interests.”
