Democratic Party vice president Miodrag Gavrilovic has said that he gets the impression one "can talk with Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti, but whether an agreement can actually be reached with him depends on many accompanying circumstances."

"I cannot claim that Kurti is ready for an agreement, nor that anything can be agreed with him at all, because neither I nor the public in Serbia have information on the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina so far," Gavrilovic told the Oct. 8 issue of daily Danas, on the occasion of a meeting with Kurti in Ljubljana, organized by the Party of European Socialists.

He also said that it was not known "what was discussed and whether anything was agreed" and that he could not allow himself to ask Kurti what agreement he had reached with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Commenting on headlines in Serbia's tabloids accusing him of having a carefree chat with Kurti while the Serbs in northern Kosovo feared for their lives, he said that he found it unacceptable that someone who cooperated with Kurti's government on a daily basis, whose ticket was part of Kurti's government and whose ministers were part of that government, criticized him "for shaking someone's hand."
