Dr Ivo Udovicic (BETAPHOTO/SERBIAN GOVERNMENT/SLOBODAN MILJEVIC/DS)

Commander of the Karaburma military COVID hospital in Belgrade Ivo Udovcic said on Jan. 2 that the "coronavirus reinfection period is around three months" and that the symptoms were mostly mild.

"Thankfully the percentage of reinfection is a little lower than one percent," Udovicic told Prva TV. He stressed that the coronavirus was  a new kind of virus and that little was still known about the immunity that it created hence reinfection was common.

Udovicic also said that it would be "senseless" to cancel or soften anti-epidemic measures like certain states were doing. "We cannot compare ourselves with the United States, because every country has its own program," he said, adding that "the degree of collective immunity here is much lower than in the U.S. and the Delta variant is still widespread," he said.
