Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic has stated on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Croatian military and police Operation Storm that "Serbia and Croatia, as neighboring countries, must build better relations for the sake of the future," but that "there will not be any new Storms anywhere ever again, because Serbia and the Serbian people will not allow that."

Selakovic said in a press release that Croatia celebrated the anniversary of Operation Storm as Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, whereas in Republika Srpska and Serbia it was a day of mourning over the biggest ethnic cleansing in Europe since World War II - and would remain that way because oblivion did not heal, rather it created new wounds.

"Serbia and Croatia are neighboring countries and for the sake of the future they must build better relations, cooperate economically and try not to pass on prejudice and inherited animosity toward the other to new generations, however, it is highly unlikely that the two views of Storm and some other historical events will ever be reconciled," the Foreign Ministry quoted Selakovic as saying.
