Serbian Foreign Minister Meets French President in Tunisia

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic held a fringe meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Francophone Summit in Djerba, Tunisia, Dacic said on Instagram on Nov. 19.

“I used a brief encounter with Macron not just for a friendly chat, but also to remind him how important certain topics are for us, and that we expect France to support peace and stability in the region,” Dacic said on his Instagram account, adding a few photos of him and the French president.

Dacic said that they managed to briefly exchange opinions on issues of importance to bilateral and regional ties, and recall Macron’s visit to Belgrade. “Multilateral meetings, including the Francophonie Summit in Djerba that has brought together the highest-ranking representatives of the Francophone world and their friends, offer a perfect opportunity to meet global leaders,” Dacic said.

Speaking at the Ministerial Conference of the International Organization of La Francophonie, attended by a delegation from Kosovo too, Dacic said that Serbia’s attendance “in no way suggests that Serbia recognizes Kosovo’s independence, nor does it affect in any way Serbia’s consistent respect for U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244.” Dacic also held fringe meetings on Nov. 18 with the representatives of South Korea, Bulgaria and Togo with whom he discussed the current political situation and bilateral relations.
