Kosovo authorities: All Who Open Euro Account May Receive Money from Any Country

The governor of the central bank of Kosovo, Ahmet Ismaili, stated during the Feb. 7 meeting with the minister for the return and communities, Nenad Rasic, that the Decree on cash operations did not ban the receiving of money into euro accounts in licensed banks, nor did it limit the exchange of money in any currency accepted by the licensed banks.

“All citizens who already have euro bank accounts, in any licensed bank in Kosovo, may use it for receiving money from any country. Meanwhile, those who do not have an account yet may open it in any bank. There are no fees for opening and maintaining the account for the vulnerable groups and welfare schemes as of Jan. 1, 2024,” reads the statement issued after the meeting.

Ismaili informed Rasic that four bank branches, three micro-financial institutions and more than 15 non-bank financial institutions for payments and exchange operated in the four Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo’s north.
