Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to arrive on a two-day visit to Serbia on May 7 at the invitation of his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, with whom he will discuss ways to further enhance bilateral relations.

Xi is coming to Belgrade on the 25th anniversary of NATO’s bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Serbia’s capital, as part of his first European tour in five years, making stops only in other two countries – France and Hungary.

A wide range of topics is expected to be on the table, from political, economic and technological, to bilateral cultural cooperation.

President Xi is also expected to open the new Chinese Cultural Center in Belgrade, built on the site of the former Chinese Embassy building, hit by NATO bombs on May 7, 1999, killing three Chinese journalists.

Xi’s Belgrade visit comes some six months after Vucic traveled to Beijing for the international Belt and Road forum, during which the two countries signed a Free Trade Agreement, which is to take effect in July.
