Milos Vucevic, prime minister of Serbia and president of the Serbian Progressive Party, said on June 2 that the Sunday elections were "a festival of democracy" and added that his party would recognize the results "however the people vote."

"However the people vote, we will recognize that without any delays or disputes. It will be solely as the people say -- that is sacrosanct to us. And I believe the people value work and above all responsibility," Vucevic told reporters after voting at a polling station in Novi Sad.

He went on to say that he was a " moderate optimist" that the ticket endorsed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic would win in Novi Sad just like in every other local self-administration. He added that elections had always been an opportunity to evaluate someone's work and decide "if those responsible should continue to be, or if someone else should be given a chance."

Local elections took place in 89 towns and municipalities in Serbia on June 2, including Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Cacak, Valjevo and most municipalities in Vojvodina.
