The marking of EU Green Week 2024 began in Serbia on June 5, with focus being placed this year on the fight for cleaner and better quality water.
The goal of the event is to raise awareness, incite dialogue and promote solutions to challenges such as the shortage of water, pollution and degradation of ecosystems, it was announced on the web-site of the EU Delegation in Serbia.
“Water is a vital shared resource that is passed down from generation to generation – a resource that is essential for people, for the environment and for a just, sustainable and resilient economy. Citizens across the continent are facing an increase in natural disasters, such as droughts and floods, which have exacerbated the EU’s water challenges and brought new awareness to the need for water resource resilience,” the statement reads.
A series of events, conferences, exhibitions and film screenings will be organized in several cities throughout Serbia during the next seven days, and the complete schedule is available on the web-site europa.rs. “The European Union supports Serbia to achieve its own goals related to environmental protection and climate action in order to gradually bring them closer to the level of EU standards, while improving the awareness of citizens, the private sector and the media,” it was underscored in the statement.
