Extraordinary Parliamentary Elections in Serbia, Dec. 17 2023 (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)

The Serbian Progressive Party “failed spectacularly” in the Nis local elections and the city’s opposition will fight until its last breath to protect the will of the people, Dr Dragan Milic announced on June 6. Milic’s eponymous opposition ticket came in second to the ruling Progressives.

“There’s no way the Progressives won. They may have brought musicians to the party [headquarters to celebrate the win], but the atmosphere was more like a funeral because no one can celebrate when they know they’ve lost,” Milic said in an interview for the NIN weekly.

According to him, the Progressives’ coalition combined with the minority Russian Party won a total of 3,332 votes less than all the opposition parties that passed the threshold combined.

“If we included the votes received by opposition parties which didn’t pass the threshold, this gap amounts to five-six thousand votes,” the medical doctor turned politician stated, underlining that this clearly shows that most of Nis does not support the current regime.
