Official: Kosovo Rejects Blackmail by New Concessions Sought by Some EU States

Kosovo Deputy Premier Besnik Bislimi stated on June 19 that some European Union member countries had requested additional concessions, which exceed the punitive measures the bloc imposed on Kosovo last year, but that it refused to be blackmailed.

Bislimi’s statement came after the EU’s commissioner for foreign affairs, Josep Borrell, submitted a report to the EU member states, while Radio Free Europe learned from diplomatic sources that Borrell recommended the lifting of punitive measures in his report.

The reason for measures against Kosovo pertained to the riots on May 26 and 29, 2023, which were said, on several occasions, to have been caused by Belgrade. “The source of these riots is in Belgrade,” Bislimi said, “but, since they took place in Kosovo, the measures were imposed on Kosovo.”
