There is no reason for fear because the police are taking every necessary step to ensure the safety of the public, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced on July 3, four days after a terrorist attack in front of the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade.

“We are aware of several dozens of individuals gathered in a [local] Wahhabi movement. They have already been questioned and a comprehensive investigation is under way, with even the smallest details being checked,” Dacic told the Kurir daily. Police are also monitoring the most prominent Wahhabis in Serbia, he added, so there is no cause for concern.

“That the red security alert has been extended several days is telling enough. Members of all relevant services are working tirelessly to prevent any other potential attack,” the minister stated.

One Wahhabi was killed on June 29 after shooting a crossbow at and wounding a Gendarmerie member guarding the Embassy of Israel in the Serbian capital.
