The Serbian Government would take out a loan in the amount of RSD42 billion , or around EUR358.8 million from Postanska Stedionica, a bank majority owned by the government, to build a national football stadium and access roads, magazine Nova Ekonomija reported on July 9.

The selected contractor is Chinese company Power China, while the stadium will be constructed in the Belgrade municipality of Surcin.

This information is contained in a bill which the Serbian Parliament is set to adopt and thereby approve the funding.

The borrowing, according to Nova Ekonomija, relies on the Agreement on a long-term investment loan, signed by the Serbian Government and Postanska Stedionica bank on June 25.

The interest rate on the loan denominated in RSD, will be based on the movement of the three-month BELIBOR (Belgrade Interbank Offered Rate), plus a fixed annual rate of 2.9 percent. The repayment term is 11 years with a three-year grace period.

On May 11, the Serbian Government adopted a Decree proclaiming the construction of urban infrastructure and the National football stadium with access roads a project of special importance for Serbia.

In the autumn of 2023, the Serbian Government signed another loan arrangement with Postanska Stedionica and UniCredit bank for building communal infrastructure to the National football stadium. The government can borrow RSD11.2 billion from each financial institution, that is, a total of RSD24 billion, or around EUR190 million.
