Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said on Aug. 8 that the state would respond to protests against lithium mining, including one scheduled to be held in Belgrade on Aug. 10,  seriously and engage in serious analyses of the impact of mining on human health and the environment.

He told RTS that there would be no mining in the next 24 months until all of the analyses were performed and professionals gave their opinion.

"Some opposition politicians are using this subject and abusing it even though it could be a great development opportunity for our country. They are protesting even though we said there would be no mining in the next two years or at all if mining experts deem that it is hazardous to the health of people and the environment," Mali said.
