In an interview for the Aug. 28 edition of the Vecernje Novosti daily, Serbian Ambassador in Paris Ana Hrustanovic stated that the main discussion topics for French President Emmanuel Macron’s upcoming visit to Belgrade are the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, the protection of the rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and Serbia’s further progress in Euro-integrations.
“Paris aims to lead a balanced policy toward the so-called Kosovo Question. On several occasions, including quite recently, the French side has officially reacted to and condemned Pristina’s unilateral decisions which have not contributed to the normalization of relations but rather to the contrary – have caused increased tensions and endangered the fundamental human rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” Hrustanovic said regarding Macron’s impending arrival, scheduled for the evening of Aug. 29.
According to the ambassador, Serbia is putting its faith in Paris’s “authority and credibility” to help solve the Kosovo issue, which is essential for the country.
“The existing trust and understanding between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and [President] Macron without a doubt plays a pivotal role in the strength of [Franco-Serbian] relations. Of course, the history of friendship and fighting side-by-side, as well as the ties between our two peoples, who share history, their present and their future, also play a central role,” Hrustanovic stated.
