City of Zrenjanin (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV/DS)

Zrenjanin’s Assistant Mayor Vera Milosev, who insulted a boy with special needs at a local theatre, has handed in her resignation, the city’s Mayor Simo Salapura announced on Sept. 9.

“Although official proceedings have not yet been launched, Vera chose this step to avoid causing problems in the operation of the local government, to demonstrate accountability, to allow the relevant authorities to uncover the entire truth and, therefore, to prove that everything did not transpire as the media have reported,” the press release reads.

According to the media, Milosev and friends verbally attacked and threatened three boys at Zrenjanin’s movie theater, telling the youngest – a child with developmental issues – that he “can no longer come there” and that they “do not want to see him again.”
