The authorities' announcement that they will bring back mandatory military service is nothing but propaganda and marketing and the question is who is Serbia preparing to go to war with, opposition People's Movement of Serbia MP Miroslav Aleksic said on Sept. 16.

"I served in the army in a barracks, I know what the army is, training lasted six months. I don't know how someone can be trained in 75 days to handle sophisticated equipment, which they talk to us about every day. The essential question is not military service, but rather - are we preparing to go to war and with whom? How and why?," Aleksic told the Glas Sumadije website.

He believes another essential question is the drain of professional army members and why people do not want to work in the army.

"It would have been better if they'd dealt with the professional army and motivating those who want to be soldiers. To have better conditions and be satisfied," said Aleksic.
