Belgrade is hosting a second EU Opportunity Week starting on Sept. 23 with the words of European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi voicing the European Union’s commitment to supporting Serbia on its path to modernization, growth and reforms.
Addressing the participants via video link, Varhelyi said that the EU Opportunity Week showcases the full spectrum of opportunities the Union offers to the citizens of Serbia, "symbolizing the long-standing partnership between the EU and Serbia."
"The EU is not only Serbia’s most important political and economic partner and largest donor, but also a committed partner investing in Serbia's growth, modernization and prosperity on its path towards the European integration," the European commissioner said.
The EU ambassador to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, said during the opening at the European House in Belgrade that the EU Opportunity Week was a watershed moment in "long-standing cooperation between the EU and Serbia," adding that the EU was Serbia’s friend and partner.
Serbia's Minister for European Integration Tanja Miscevic underlined that the purpose of the EU Opportunity Week was to show how to use the potentials the Union offered, "not only to the state, central government, and local self-governments, but to each of us, including also small and medium-sized enterprises and local non-governmental organizations."
The second Opportunity Week, promoted under the slogan "You Can, Too," will be hosted by Belgrade and Nis from Sept. 23 to Sept. 27, 2024.
