Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic should not attend the parliamentary debate on lithium mining, scheduled for Oct. 7, because the opposition’s proposal on the subject is not worthy of the president’s time, Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Oct. 2.
In a statement for Pink TV, Brnabic claimed that the new mining and geological surveys bill is “full of blanket statements, false news and tabloid citations,” evidencing “the opposition’s sloppiness and irresponsibility,” so there is no point in the president attending the upcoming National Assembly sitting.
“I haven’t spoken to him about [whether or not he will come to the debate]. He was too busy. But I’ll talk to him and we’ll see,” Brnabic explained.
According to her, the opposition cannot agree on whether or not they want Vucic to attend the meeting and, in addition, are fearful of facing him because they lack arguments with which they could hold their ground in a debate with Vucic.
