Co-president of the Green-Left Front Radomir Lazovic said, commenting on a statement by U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill that some of the participants of protests against lithium mining “are pro-Russian” and that he saw the protests as being against Serbia heading toward the West, that the ambassador could note that there were decades-long fighters for Serbia joining the EU at the protests and support them.
The ambassador could see “those who despite the authoritarian regime are fighting for the rule of law to be respected or the freedom of the media” or the “huge number of people that are fighting against election fraud, or everything that the Green-Left Front is fighting for” and we can hardly be accused of pro-Russian action Lazovic told the Danas newspaper.
He said that there was huge dissatisfaction such as in the case of lithium mining, and that “it is normal to have people of various worldviews in the streets.” Lazovic also stressed that Ambassador Hill was naturally led by the interests in using critical raw materials of the country that he represented but that “these are not the interests of Serbia and Serbian citizens.”
