Minister Without Portfolio and president of the Justice and Reconciliation Party Usame Zukorlic said on Oct. 24 that relations between Sarajevo and Belgrade "are key to the future of relations between Bosniaks and Serbs and peace between these two mixed peoples."
"Belgrade is my capital of the country, while Sarajevo is my spiritual and ethnic center. It is personally important to me, but it is also important to my people, that these two cities cooperate and solve their mutual problems," Zukorlic told the Politika newspaper adding that communication between these two cities "is minimal."
He also said that he would pay Sarajevo an official visit when he believed that this would be fruitful, adding that he believed that would be "in the near future." According to him, these two peoples need one another "to overcome the shared dangers" that "the future might bring."
Speaking on a recent visit to Belgrade by Turkish President Recep Tayyip, Zukorlic said every visit fostered cooperation between Serbia and Turkey positively affected every part of the country and especially the Sandzak region. "Meetings of this nature contribute to overcoming old prejudices and contribute to the connectivity of the Muslim and Orthodox worlds," Zukorlic concluded.
