Railway infrastructure company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije has initiated negotiations on conducting an assessment of the structural condition of the train station in Novi Sad, 27 days after the tragedy in which the station's outdoor concrete canopy collapsed, killing 15 people and leaving two seriously injured, website eKapija reported on Nov. 29.
A classic public invitation has not been issued for the job, rather negotiations are underway due to "the extreme urgency caused by the events the contracting authority could not have foreseen and in line with the strict conditions stated in the law."
"After the fall of the overhang at the railway station, experts in various fields pointed out on several occasions that both before and during the reconstruction itself the designers, contractors and supervision had failed, as well as state bodies, which caused justified public doubt as to the quality of not just these works but also of many other major state infrastructure projects carried out in recent years," the website stressed.
