Veljko Odalovic, the director of the Serbian Government’s Missing Persons Commission, said on Dec. 2 that Serbia does not have the least interest in undermining the stability of Kosovo and Metohija and stressed that the explosion which damaged the Ibar-Lepenac canal suits the purposes of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
“We know for sure that we’ve done nothing and have no vested interest. That is so clear that all facts point to this suiting only Kurti. I don’t want to guess on the true motive, but Serbia has no reason to undermine a power grid used by both Serbia and Albania,” Odalovic told the RTS public service.
In his opinion, no progress should be expected from further Belgrade-Pristina talks because Kurti does not want to negotiate in Brussels.
“[Kurti] has been achieving his goals on the ground. The issue of missing persons and other unanswered questions are not a priority for him. He’s focused on his own political capital,” Odalovic said.
With regards to Pristina’s request to deploy the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) to northern Kosovo – which KFOR refused – Odalovic said that despite no official documents naming it as such, they view the KSF as “a military force” and that, therefore, its arrival in the Serb-dominated north of Kosovo would represent “the beginning of total occupation”.
