The Central Electoral Commission of Kosovo has not confirmed the Serb List's filing for running in the Assembly elections on Feb. 9 citing alleged nationalist statements by its president, Zlatan Elek.

Commission members from the Self-Determination Movement, Sami Kurteshi and Alban Krasniqi, were the first to speak out against confirming the filing.

Kurteshi said he had reservations about Serb List candidates being put forward, saying that they never spoke about the Republic of Kosovo, but of Kosovo and Metohija. "They don't say, 'long live Kosovo,' they say, 'long live Serbia,'" he said, adding that Serb List representatives maintained contact with the Aleksandar Vucic regime, mentioning in relation to that regime Milan Radojicic, a former official of the Serb List who has been tied to an attack in Banjska, northern Kosovo, in 2023, and more recently the Ibar-Lepenac channel, according to Kurteshi.

He released an audio recording of Elek where nationalist utterances can allegedly be heard.

Opposition party representatives also expressed reservations, while Democratic Party of Kosovo representative Arianit Elshani said the vetting of tickets had gone through multiple institutions, none of which issued any objections.
