On Dec. 31, the EU released a statement saying that not verifying a political party's ticket for the upcoming, Feb. 9 general election for political rather than legal reasons posed a serious regression, and called on the Central Electoral Commission to ensure an inclusive, authentic and transparent electoral process that would enable voters to clearly express their choice.
The European External Action Service (EEAS) said that all candidates that met the required conditions had a chance to participate in free and fair elections in full accordance with Kosovo regulations.
The EU stressed that the electoral process needed to be transparent, authentic and without political interference. The Self-Determination Movement lodged a complaint after the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel confirmed that the Serb List had met all the legal criteria for participating in the elections. The Supreme Court of Kosovo also rejected the Self-Determination Movement’s complaint.
