The Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy said in a press release on Jan. 13 that the working group monitoring the actions of the U.S. Department of the Treasury related to the sanctions against the Serbian NIS oil company had met for the first time.

"The Serbian government is working hard to prevent any negative effects of the sanctions. At this time it is very important that we get additional clarification from the U.S. administration, which will happen I believe today or tomorrow. At the same time, we are preparing for dialogue with the new U.S. administration in order to establish a platform for negotiations with the Russian side," said Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, who presided over the working group meeting.

Present at the working group meeting were Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Foreign Minister Marko Djuric and NIS board of directors member Dragutin Matanovic.
