The president of the New Democratic Party, Milos Jovanovic, has assessed that the incident in which an automobile hit a female student in Belgrade on Jan. 16 was the final proof that the “personal regime” of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic “has to disappear into history.”

A car hit the student, causing serious injuries, during the 15-minute paying of homage to the victims of the Nov. 1 tragedy in Novi Sad. The police have announced that the driver had been remanded in custody. Jovanovic stated that this case was “the final proof that the personal regime of (Aleksandar) Vucic,” that is “built on lies, corruption, national treason and theft, must urgently disappear into history.”

“More adamantly than ever before, we demand the dismissal of the present government and the forming of a transitional one, the sole task of which would be to work on creating conditions for fair and democratic elections,” he stated, adding that “besides this, it has to be clear to everyone that Vucic must also be dismissed” because “he is unworthy of leading Serbia in every regard.”

“That is why we call on all citizens to join the blockades, civil disobedience drives, or a general strike if needed, so that this criminal regime, which is not of the people, is replaced,” Jovanovic said.
