The Independence Union of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) accused the RTS News Program editorial team on Jan. 20 of "failing to act in the best interest of the public, or ensure truthful and timely information for citizens."

The Union said a statement that the news segments on student protests aired during the prime-time news program Dnevnik 2 on Jan. 18 and 19 were "the examples of utter insolence and unprofessionalism unworthy of a public broadcaster."

"Fellow editors, journalists, anchors, editors, cameramen, lighting technicians, sound engineers, technicians, managers, directors – we are urging you to distance yourselves from this version of RTS. We have all contributed to what RTS has become, some more, some less, many by staying silent, some by acting," the statement said.

The Union underlined that the RTS management "is unaware of the importance of the institution it runs" and accused the editors of the News Program of working "against society, against RTS, and ultimately against themselves."
