Independence Union chief Darko Sper warned on June 12 that the adoption of amendments to the Law on Public Media Services which is on parliament's agenda "will threaten the functioning" of the Vojvodina Broadcasting Corporation (RTV).
He pleaded with the public to pressure MPs, both government and opposition, to reject the amendments and prevent the collapse of RTV's program. "The legal amendments envisage the cessation of the co-financing of the provincial public broadcaster by the republic in the amount of RSD900 million a year, which is RSD75 million on the monthly level," Sper said.
He said that this would threaten RTV's regular operation and program due to which "cuts to the detriment of program quality have already been announced." "RTV GM Goran Karadzic has asked the editors in chief of program wholes to give up 100 employees, mostly freelancers working in the program," Sper said.
