A delegation of the Democratic Party is paying an official visit to the European Parliament (EP), where they are to attend the presentation of the annual report on Serbia, the party announced on Feb. 19.
“We came to Brussels to attend, together with our Social Democrat colleagues, members of the European Parliament, the official presentation of the annual report for Serbia and to convey to our European colleagues that students are stronger than Vucic,” the statement reads.
The Democrats stated that they informed the MEPs in Brussels that the EU “had largely lost its credibility in the democratic public in Serbia,” and that the statement made by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos “has caused serious damage, to her personally, as well.” They added that, while in Brussels, they would attempt to depict the atmosphere and “the new life energy which the students are creating in our society,” and that the essence of the students’ demands was for the prosecution and courts to start seriously investigating the corruption in connection with the tragedy in Novi Sad.
“It is almost certain that investigation would lead to Vucic directly. In Brussels, the Democrats are informing MEPs about the real value of the reconstruction, compared to how much the authorities have stolen, reiterating that EUR50-million corruption had led to a tragedy in which 15 people died,” the statement reads.
