Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on April 28 that no one had requested him to call an early vote so far, even though some of the students involved in the university blockades and parts of the opposition did offer the idea.

Vucic said that since the beginning of the blockades and protests six months ago, the students had not asked anything of him because he was a "non-competent institution."

"Maybe someone else can call elections for them, or maybe I will, you never know. But they don't talk to me, and they haven't asked for anything. I'm sure they won't either, because how could they spit in their own face? It would turn out that they have been lying for six months, referring to me as a non-competent institution, which they would now have to approach and beg," the president said.

The president also said that he felt like a "free man," and that he would visit each of the 17 cities where local citizens' assemblies had declared him persona non grata.

The president stated that the next two weeks would be crucial for Serbia’s international standing, as he would meet with key politicians from several countries during that period, possibly U.S. President Donald Trump, too.

"Several European officials will be visiting Serbia, including Marta Kos, Kaja Kallas, Antonio Costa... all within the next 15 days. There will also be a visit to Moscow," Vucic told reporters after touring the construction site of the Milos Veliki highway section from Preljina to Pozega.

Vucic said the highway section should be opened to traffic on June 28. The 30.9-kilometer-long section is an extension of Corridor 11 toward the border with Montenegro, but is also part of a Belgrade-Sarajevo highway, which is yet to be built.
