On May 5, the president of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party and former PM Milos Vucevic stated that elections are a constant topic in politics but that his party will not participate in something that will lead the country to ruin.

“They talk of snap elections and then create chaos at the polling stations, preventing the vote from happening and immediately talking of [election] fraud. For [the country] to end up without a Parliament or Cabinet… that is a scenario we won’t be seeing. I’ve heard enough of their lies and tricks,” Vucevic said of the opposition in an appearance on Happy TV.

In his opinion, the university students who have been on strike and blocking their schools for six months now have “moved into pure politics.” Moreover, any talk of a snap parliamentary election is the result of a “failed revolution” and the failed demand “for a Djilas-led interim government,” he said, referencing Freedom and Justice Party leader Dragan Djilas.

“The key question is why they didn’t request snap elections in November or December [2024]. They would have gotten them then. It would have been natural to request [elections] at the time, if they believed that someone from the system was guilty [for the Novi Sad railway station collapse]. Instead, all their plans for [a color revolution] have failed,” Vucevic concluded.

The politician, who recently stepped down as prime minister, went on to say that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is currently feeling well after being forced to cut his visit to the U.S. short on May 2 due to health issues. The doctors at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade are monitoring the president’s condition, Vucevic said, adding that as long as Vucic “is disciplined in his therapy, he should return to active duty at full capacity very soon.”
