Serbia's student ultramarathoners arrived in Brussels late on May 12, where numerous Serbian citizens and others were present to greet them.
Brussels was the final destination of their 16-day 1933-kilometer relay ultramarathon, whose starting point was Novi Sad.
Expatriate students traveling on foot from Aachen, Germany, had arrived in Brussels one hour earlier.
A welcome event was organized for the students in front of the seat of the European External Affairs Service, which is headed by Kaja Kallas.
The students, who dubbed their run From My Village to Brussels, plan to brief the institutions of the European Union on the situation in Serbia and the student demands which are the reason for months of blockades and protests after the collapse of a concrete overhang at the railway station in Novi Sad in November 2024 claimed 16 lives. In the days to come, they are expected to meet with European Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, David McAllister, head of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, and many members of the European Parliament.
The students occupying universities in Serbia on May 12 called on all social actors to join them and contribute to the fight for an extraordinary parliamentary election and ensuring a just and free election process, noting that now was the time for joint action.
