Protest in Nis, March 1 2025 (BETAPHOTO/Sasa Djordjevic)
The blockading students of the University of Nis have called on the public to join their upcoming rally, planned for May 30 in front of the University’s main offices. The protest will begin at 11:52 a.m. and include events until the end of the day.
The protesting students have been blockading the rector’s office since May 21, demanding that the University head and his deans pledge not to commence online classes by signing a platform penned by the students.
Said document further insists that the University “immediately cease pressures” on the academic community and withdraw its support to the planned amendments to the Higher Education Act, which, it was stated, “undermines the university’s constitutional right to autonomy.”
Among other demands, the students also want the University to request the annulment of a government decision allowing financial sanctions against all educators employed in public post-secondary institutions.
