Some members of the academic community, assembled in the initiative called University in Rebellion, have set up a camp in downtown Belgrade, where they say will stay until fulfillment of their demands, including lifting political control over education and preserving university autonomy.
The protest titled “Faculties at the Crossroads” began in the morning on June 9, outside the Serbian Government building, at the intersection of the Kneza Milosa and Nemanjina streets. During the day, the assembled people were addressed by university professors and music performances were also organized.
So far, there has been no reaction from the Serbian Government, while the blockade of some of Belgrade’s major streets has caused traffic jams and public transport disruptions.
