Finance Minister Sinisa Mali on June 10 said that Serbia would take loans in the amount of some EUR 1.9 billion from foreign banks to pay out the purchase of 12 Rafale fighter jets from France.
Speaking at a parliament session, discussing the ratification of these loans, Mali said that the first two tranches of prepayment for the jets had been paid, adding that in early 2028, Serbia would get its first Rafale, and after that one jet every next month.
“With 12 multirole combat aircraft, we will upgrade our air force and the army as part of the so far unprecedented investment cycle,” Mali said. On August 29, 2024, the Serbian Government signed with Dassault Aviation, a French manufacturer of military aircraft and business jets, a contract on the procurement of 12 Rafale fighter aircraft and related products and services.
Under the commercial contract, the total purchase price of the equipment to be delivered and the services to be provided by the seller is EUR2.74 billion, of which EUR823.5 million, or the entire sum of the advance, has already been paid.
