The ruling Serbian Progressive party and President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic’s People’s Movement for the State will not be staging a gathering on June 28 – i.e. the important Serbian cultural and historical holiday St. Vitus Day – the same date for which the country’s protesting university students have called a protest rally in Belgrade, Progressives’ leader Milos Vucevic said on June 18.

“The founders of the People’s Movement for the State have been announcing a founding assembly for St. Vitus Day [for some time]. A few days ago, the blockaders announced a counter-rally. I’ve spoken in the name of the Serbian Progressive Party, and it is important that the President has [also] clearly stated that we will not be organizing any kind of gathering on St. Vitus Day,” Vucevic told Happy TV.

The former PM allowed the possibility of regime supporters “joining” the pro-government students who have been camping for months in downtown Belgrade’s Pioneers Park, located between the Parliament building and the New Palace, which houses the president’s offices.
