U.S. President Donald Trump recently said that Serbia had this year been preparing to wage a new war against Kosovo, but that his administration had prevented the conflict by threatening Belgrade with a suspension of trade.
Addressing reporters at the White House, Trump said on June 27 that the U.S. had over the last few months stopped or prevented conflicts between multiple sides, including Serbia and Kosovo.
"A friend in Serbia told me, ‘We are going to go to war again.’ It was Kosovo. They were going to have a big war. We stopped it because of trade. They want to trade with the United States. I said, we do not trade with people who go to war,” Trump said in the Oval Office.
