The agenda for the National Assembly of Serbia’s April 15 sitting includes the opposition’s motion of no confidence in the current Cabinet of Ministers and Prime Minister Djuro Macut.

The motion was submitted by 62 opposition MPs over the controversy surrounding the former General Staff Building in downtown Belgrade. The complex, damaged in the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia, had its landmark status removed so it could be sold for development to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, sparking a scandal that resulted in criminal charges against high-level officials in the Serbian government.

Supported by MPs from the People’s Movement of Serbia, the Freedom and Justice Party, the Green-Left Front, Serbia Center, We – The Strength of the People, the Ecological Uprising, the Movement of Free Citizens and others, the motion of no confidence was filed on Feb. 13.

Multiple parties of the parliamentary opposition have announced they will not attend the April 15 sitting.

According to parliament’s Rules of Order, the spring session of the Assembly commences on the first working Tuesday in March, yet no sittings had been scheduled since. Opposition MPs have opined that this was due to the regime wanting to prevent oppositional voices from being heard ahead of the March 29 regular local elections in ten municipalities.

Meanwhile, April 15 also marks the continuation of the trial of Culture Minister Nikola Selakovic, for his role in the abovementioned illegal removal of protected status from the former General Staff Building.
