Based on a representative sample of adult Serbian citizens, the key takeaway from a public opinion poll conducted by the New Serbian Political Thought (NSPM) magazine is that the people who oppose President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic outnumber his supporters, the Vreme weekly reported in its latest edition.

The article explains that the same conclusion was made based on findings from March, only to be confirmed by another poll in May.

According to the NSPM, between 32 and 33 percent of the individuals questioned expressed support for the regime, while ten percent more (42-43 percent) voiced their opposition to Vucic and his ruling party. Twenty-five percent of the poll’s participants did not choose a side.

In practical terms, the findings mean that an election involving two fronts – the regime vs. the entire opposition – would see 42.1 percent of voters opt for a ticket uniting the opposition, the protesting university students and citizens’ movements.

However, the article goes on to warn that while the ten-percent advantage may seem significant, Vucic’s third are people who are sure to vote without asking too many questions, while the oppositions 40+ percent comprises a population that may easily “lose steam,” quarrel or become disillusioned.
