Tomislav Momirovic (BETAPHOTO/Milos Miskov)
The arrest of former minister Tomislav Momirovic and his associates – all officials of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party – on corruption charges pertaining to the reconstruction of Novi Sad’s central railway station is likely not ‘an act’ orchestrated by the regime to demonstrate the rule of law in Serbia, attorney Bozo Prelevic stated on Aug. 7.
“While I don’t have personal relationships with the prosecutors who ordered the arrests of [former] minister Tomislav Momirovic and a group of others, I do know them professionally and believe they are dedicated professionals. . . I don’t believe they would participate in any kind of ‘act’ aimed at demonstrating the rule of law [in Serbia],” Prelevic told the Nedeljnik weekly.
According to the attorney and former politician, had the authorities wanted to feign a crackdown on corruption, they certainly would not have “exposed themselves to this extent.”
