Djuro Macut (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut condemned on Oct. 2 an attack on vice-premier of the Vojvodina administration Sandra Bozic calling it “an unacceptable act of violence against women.”
“Our society has been going through serious challenges for some time now – degraded relations, division and rising intolerance. In that atmosphere it is particularly worrying when violence is directed toward women, because that shows how much work lies ahead of us to build a society in which every woman feels safe and respected,” Macut was quoted as saying by the administration in a statement.
He said that attacks of this kind were not just a personal strike, but a strike on institutions and democratic values. Provincial government and Serbian Progressive Party presidency member Sandra Bozic was attacked in Belgrade on Oct. 1, the Blic newspaper reported. The paper said on its website that according to media reports the attack took place in the Belgrade Vozdovac district and that the attacker was an unknown woman on a motorcycle while Bozic was in a car.
