Foreign Minister of Serbia Marko Djuric stated on Oct. 15, on the first day of participation in the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Uganda, that Serbia representing one of the founder countries of the movement, in a moment when its member states were playing the key role in economic and political development in the world, represented a great recognition.

Djuric said that the country’s delegation in Kampala was at the beginning of an important ministerial meeting of non-aligned countries, starting its participation on the first day with working meetings with the foreign ministers of Algeria and Tunisia and by attending the opening ceremony and plenary session of the summit, according to a press release by the Foreign Ministry of Serbia.

“I can say that I am extremely pleased and honored to represent the state that was one of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement 65 years ago; nowadays, when it is exactly the non-aligned countries that are the bearers of economic and political growth and development of mankind in our era, this represents great political capital for Serbia,” Djuric stated.

He added that Serbia was in Africa at this time, at the non-aligned meeting, with a clear goal to create new opportunities for Serbia’s economy, to solidify political ties and positions and to recollect that it was exactly among the non-aligned countries that Serbia has the most friends who support its positions on Kosovo and other important issues. He went on to say that, of the former Yugoslav countries, Serbia was the one with the most developed network of diplomatic outposts in Africa and that these would continue to solidify Serbia’s position, not only on the African continent, but in every place where “there are political, economic, cultural and other kinds of opportunities for Serbia.”
