Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Oct. 17 that a meeting between U.S. and Russian presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin expected to take place in Budapest, was “good news,” as it was an opportunity for peace talks, because there was no doubt that Ukraine would be the main topic.
“It’s certainly good news, peace talks are always good news, because they can create a chance of peace actually coming. I don’t mean right now, and I don’t think it will be simple, but sooner" than without the talks, Vucic told reporters after visiting the construction site of the Iriski Venac tunnel.
The president believes the presidential talks “will shape the world’s future.” “I believe they will discuss not only Ukraine but also a new global energy map, or rather, how the two great powers are going to divide the world, but also taking in account the strong China, because no serious calculation is possible without China, because there is no serious global equation without China,” he said.
Vucic also said that he was unsure whether this would be good for Serbia or not, as Serbia was part of Europe, but he could not say if Europe would be given a leading role in the process, adding that he would meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Oct. 20 or Oct. 22 to discuss Serbia’s requests following U.S. sanctions against NIS.
