Shortly past 10 a.m. on Oct. 22, one man sustained a bullet wound to the leg while another was arrested following an attack at the months-old illegal encampment erected by pro-regime supporters in front of the Serbian National Assembly.
According to media reports, which the Ministry of Internal Affairs was unable to confirm, the assailant entered the camp armed, shot one man in the leg, started a fire and then tossed a large quantity of bullets into the flames.
Police officers guarding the encampment and the Parliament building were quick to defuse the situation and arrest the attacker. The dozens of tents were put up in March and have been blocking the area in front of the Assembly, along with one of Belgrade’s main boulevards, ever since.
At the time of the incident, the National Assembly of Serbia was in session and holding a vote.
