Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic had talks in Sarajevo with newly appointed European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner about the harmonization of Serbia’s visa policy with that of the EU and the advancement of cooperation in the field of interior affairs, including migration, border management and protection and the fight against dangerous and organized crime.
According to a press release of the Interior Ministry, Dacic and Brunner met on the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans ministerial meeting. Dacic presented the results of the activities to date and Serbia’s response to contemporary security and migration challenges, stressing that Serbia was the EU’s reliable partner in preserving the stability and security of the region, while Commissioner Brunner particularly cited and praised Serbia’s good and constructive cooperation, the announcement reads.
Dacic pointed out that the meeting with Commissioner Brunner was very important for the continued and constructive dialogue between Serbia and the EU in the field of interior affairs and for the joint response to contemporary security and migration challenges.
In Sarajevo, Dacic also met with the executive director of Frontex, Hans Leijtens. They discussed Serbia’s cooperation with Frontex so far and the expansion of joint operations onto the borders of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, within which officers from EU countries with executive authority are deployed to suppress irregular migration and cross-border crime.
