Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Dec. 16 said he would file criminal complaints against all who, according to him, had been involved in “destroying” the planned American investment in redeveloping the site of the Army General Staff (Generalstab) complex in downtown Belgrade.
Vucic said that the decision of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, to pull out of the planned Trump-branded project in Belgrade, was “terribly difficult and bad news” for him, because this investment would have brought EUR750 million euros to Serbia, creating thousands of jobs.
Vucic further said that since Kushner had dropped his plan to build a Trump hotel in Belgrade, Serbia “missed a great opportunity,” adding that “he will personally make sure that all those involved in causing damage to the country will be held accountable.”
“I will file criminal complaints against everyone in the police, the prosecutor’s office and others who were involved in destroying this investment, who contributed to further undermining of the country’s economy. But they will not be held accountable before their own bodies, but their cases will be handled by another prosecuting authority,” Vucic told reporters in Belgrade.
Asked about the indictment proposal against Culture Minister Nikola Selakovic over his alleged involvement in the removal of cultural heritage status from the Army General Staff complex, Vucic described the indictment proposal as “shameful and disgraceful”, adding that it represented “disgusting political manipulation.”
Vucic once again stressed that the indictment proposal for the General Staff complex should have been filed against him, because he had insisted on the investment, adding that “he will immediately pardon everyone who will face potential indictments” in this case.
