Antonio Stasi (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Italian Brigadier General Antonio Stasi has taken over the office of chief of the NATO Liaison Office in Belgrade instead of Italian Brigadier General Pierluigi Lodole.
Stasi said that Serbia's ties to the Western military alliance "are a valuable partnership" based on Serbia's demands "with full respect for its policy of military neutrality."
"The liaison office in Belgrade has an exceptional responsibility to strengthen NATO's and Serbia's partnership and has been investing huge efforts since it started to advance cooperation. I confirm my unwavering devotion to the further advancement of political dialogue with Serbia," Stasi said.
NATO Allied Joint Force Command commander in Naples Adm. George Wikoff said in a video message that since 2006 when Serbia "adopted a strategic decision" to join the Partnership for Peace "deep and valuable connections" between the two sides had been established.
"This partnership over the past 19 years has progressed at a pace and in a way that Serbia chose, and NATO has fully respected Serbia's policy of military neutrality and independence. This foundation enables cooperation, which in turn boosts stability, security and prosperity," Wikoff said.
