Come the next elections, one can easily expect the ruling Serbian Progressive Party to put forth its own, fake ticket comprising the same kind of people who claimed to be “university students who want to study,” Green-Left Front co-president Biljana Djordjevic said on Dec. 31, referencing the individuals who opposed the ongoing student protests and erected the so-called Caciland camp in downtown Belgrade.

“Anyone can see that the Progressives are shying away from [snap] elections, but to ameliorate the embarrassment he faces in front of his voters for not daring to call [an early parliamentary vote] [President Aleksandar] Vucic must occasionally claim that elections will in fact happen,” Djordjevic told the Blic daily.

According to her, it is important to take advantage of the current moment, when there is room for EU enlargement, and that Serbia could be closing chapters of the pre-accession process and nearing EU membership, just like Montenegro, if only it were to change its regime.

“It is essential that we not be represented in European institutions solely by Progressives, who have caused Serbia to regress, because, among other things, the regime is repressing the people [of Serbia] and spreading anti-European propaganda,” the opposition politician concluded.
